Menorca is an island bathed in sunshine and blessed with so many beautiful beaches, coves and pristine landscapes. It's also a place to experience, full of history, cycle and walking trails combined with traditional charms. But where to stay and visit? Whether you're a family with young children or a couple there is a resort that's just right for you. Remember that Menorca is small and by bus or hire car you can see what you just might be missing in another resort.
The island is truely a tale of two cities - Ciutadella at the far west and Mao( Mahon ) at the far eastern end of the island. There is friendly rivalry between these two Cities, which is good for the visitor as they both have a charm all of their own and trying to out do each other with what they offer. Ciutadella's centre is very "elegant 16th century Spain" with its narrow streets and former landowners palaces. Mao / Mahon is more modern with lots of Georgian and Jugendstil elements in its architecture - perhaps a touch more international and cosmopolitan as the prefered location for big yachts. Both are defined by their picturesque harbours, bloody histories with invaders and BOTH are definitely well worth a visit.
Public buses are not practical for transfer from Airport ( you must always change at Mahon bus station ) so you will need either a shared or private transfer, Taxi or Hire Car. West coast resorts are often best via a transfer rather than Taxi due to costs - taxi circa 60-70 Eur one way. We recommend shuttle menorca.
Menorca tips - note despite the apparent many offers in Internet there are only three licensed companies who actually provide the service on Menorca, so ensure you know who you are booking with before paying.
There are definite differences and each beach resort has it's own face. Some geared more towards packaged hotels, some more to relaxing in individual villas with authentic Menorca on the door step. Family friendly resorts abound with no need to avoid drunken revellers.
Young families - Young children love menorca's sandy shallow beach fronts. Parents might want it quiet or 'buzzy' for the kids. There are many resorts near the airport for quick transfers on arrival.
Families with Teenagers- We highlight those resorts where teenagers might meet others or if they are sporty or adventure minded where there are activities in or near the resort. Menorca with Teenagers
